Say hello to the Espresso Book Machine ("EBM") Version 2.0
On Demand Books is pleased to introduce its EBM 2.0. The EBM 2.0 is
smaller, faster, and more cost-effective than its predecessor EBM 1.5, and
is specifically improved for a commercial rollout.
As with previous EBM versions, the EBM 2.0 is fully automated, user
friendly, and designed for easy operation by an entry-level employee. It
automatically prints, binds, and trims on demand at point of sale
perfect-bound library-quality paperback books with 4-color covers
(indistinguishable from the bookstore copy) in minutes for a production cost
of a penny a page. The EBM's software assures the security of publishers'
files, automatically tracks all jobs, and remits all royalty payments.
The EBM 2.0 is scheduled for installation in multiple universities,
bookstores, and other retailers in North America and around the world in the
first half of 2009 and beyond.
On Demand Books has selected several prestigious partners to serve as EBM
2.0 beta test sites, including the McGill University Library (Montreal, QC),
which will use the EBM as part of its digitization initiative; and the
University of Waterloo Bookstore (Waterloo, ON). In addition, the University
of Pennsylvania Library (Philadelphia, PA) is in consideration for an EBM
2.0 beta test site.
