Self-Publishing on the Espresso Book Machine®
Bookstores and libraries exist to help readers connect with the books they want, and now with the Espresso Book Machine (EBM), they can also help authors connect their works with others. With the EBM, your local bookstore or library can help turn your work into a professional, bookstore quality paperback, allowing you to share your book with family and friends, or even make it available for sale worldwide. With just the click of a button, the EBM can transform your work into a paperback book indistinguishable from books produced by traditional publishers.
The EBM can print:
- Novels, poetry, and memoirs
- Family histories or recipe collections
- Theses and dissertations
- Anthologies of student writing
- Collections of blog posts
- Bound presentations for school or work
- Graphic novels and zines
- Custom journals and blank books
- Previously published authors can even bring their out-of-print titles back to life
Advantages of Printing with the EBMPersonal Customer Service
In each bookstore or library, there are real people running the EBM, and they are ready to provide you with the hands-on help you deserve. Since every author has a different set of goals and needs, they can work with you one-on-one to make your self-publishing experience easy and enjoyable. The EBM consultant is available to walk you through every step of the process in person, over the phone, or via email.
There are no minimum print runs, so you can print as many or as few copies of your book as you want, when you want. You can even print a work-in-progress, uploading revised files and printing new versions at any time. You can offer your book for sale or keep it private (printable only by you) - whichever best suits your project. Books can be printed on site while you wait, or ordered remotely and mailed to you.
EBM paperbacks meet publishing industry standards, and are printed on acid-free paper so your book won’t deteriorate with the passage of time. Books can be printed on a variety of interior papers and cover stocks, so you control the look and feel of your book. To ensure a quality product, all book files are reviewed before being uploaded to an EBM.
Printing on demand, on site reduces waste and eliminates the need for shipping books, thereby reducing the environmental impact of printing a book. Excess material generated by the printing process is recycled whenever possible.
The EBM’s EspressNet
For many authors, printing a book is only the first step. Now you can also make your book available for sale through Espresso Book Machines worldwide. The EBM's EspressNet makes it possible for your book to be accessible to anyone interested in your work, even if they live in another state or another country. Should you elect to sell your work through EspressNet, all sales are tracked and payment flows back to you, the author, consistent with the sales program offered by your EBM location.
Online and In-Store
Many EBM locations offer a sales channel that includes upload to EspressNet, in-store display, and listing on the store website, exposing your book to the best of both the online and brick & mortar worlds. Your readers can discover your book while browsing the shelves, or they can order your book through the website of any EBM location worldwide. Either way, EBM locations will print copies on demand to fill any orders. For each book sold, the EBM location will retain an amount to cover print costs plus a small consignment fee (varies by location) and remit the balance back to you. For more information pertaining to all aspects of the self-publishing program, simply contact a consultant at any EBM location to schedule an appointment.
